Blake Inspire

24 Feb

In 2019 Yachting New Zealand and BLAKE worked together on a week-long BLAKE Inspire for Sailors programme.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a full programme for sailors this year but we are working with BLAKE to have up to two sailors take part in this year’s residential leadership development programme.

BLAKE Inspire is run in partnership with the Ministry for the Environment and there are two programmes in 2021:

  • April 19 – 23 in Waikato
  • October 11 – 15 in Auckland

Each programme will have 35 places available. You will be able to state your preferred choice on your application form but please note that year 13 students will have priority for the April programme.

The Yachting New Zealand scholarship will cover the cost of the residential, your travel and some NZL Sailing Team clothing.

Students will work together with scientists, environmental experts and a diverse range of leaders and other like-minded students throughout the week to help them develop strong leadership skills while learning about topical environmental issues and how these can be tackled.

Participation, adventure and learning are all key requirements for delegates. They will take part in environmental and marine science activities and visit businesses and local organisations to learn about what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment.

Most importantly, students have tonnes of fun and leave BLAKE Inspire with new friends, skills and clear action plans to start making positive change within their own schools and communities.

BLAKE Inspire delegates become eligible to join future BLAKE Expeditions as student voyagers.

BLAKE Inspire is an annual opportunity open to young New Zealanders thanks to a number of BLAKE supporters including programme sponsor, the Ministry for the Environment.

HOW TO APPLY

This is a two-part application process.

PART ONE is a short, written form here, which includes uploading the following (so please have these prepared):

  1. Your CV outlining relevant activities or school/community involvement you have had (1-2 pages maximum).
  2. A reference letter from a teacher, school principal or relevant community leader (1-2 pages maximum). This person should be able to comment on your character, skills and suitability as a BLAKE Inspire delegate.
  3. A high-resolution head and shoulders profile photo of yourself (at least 1MB but no more than 3MB). If selected for BLAKE Inspire, this will be used in our programme manual and in any publications.

PART TWO of the application is a short video interview that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Upon submitting your written application you will receive a link to this interview.

For this interview you will need to answer three short questions. We are looking for young people with passion! Don’t worry if you are not a confident speaker or you make mistakes, this won’t affect your application.

Please note that PART ONE closes on Monday March 1, 2021, at 11.59pm.

PART TWO will need to be completed by Wednesday March 3, 2021, at 5pm.

You can save and exit your submission to continue at a later time and you will receive written confirmation when submitting your final application.
