RACE GROUP TRAINING
TYPBC is regarded as one of New Zealand’s premier yacht clubs with more than half of the sailing Olympic medals won over the last two Olympics being by sailors who grew up leaning to race in Tauranga. It is our intention to continue this success and create future champions through our learn to race programs and regular club racing. The path to becoming an elite junior sailor in New Zealand is arguably the best in the world. The typical pathway is as follows:
- Optimist Green fleet (9 to 13 years)
- Optimist Open fleet (10 to 15 years)
- P Class (12 to 15 years)
- Starling (13 – 19 years)
- Laser Radial (15-25+ Years)
- 420 (14-18 years)
- 29er (14-18 Years)
After P Class and Starling sailors can move on to international youth classes such as Laser, 29er, or 420; with the next step being Olympic campaigning from the age of 20+. We provide high-quality coaching in all four categories with training sessions focused on developing core and advanced sailboat racing skills.
