Keeler update

11 Nov

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone else is watching the Vendee Globe at the moment but if you're not you should check these guys out. Along with the AC the Vendee skippers are at the cutting edge, it could be said they are ahead of the AC given they are now foiling singlehanded around the world non stop! The developments and skippers in this class are incredible.  https://www.vendeeglobe.org/en

Mount Maunganui Yacht Club are holding the Round White Island race this weekend.  A great opportunity to get some miles done and enjoy the opportunity of an amazing Island. Breeze is looking like a nice run down there with the possibility of being there by 1300hrs for the trip home. http://www.mmyc.org.nz/

Shorthanded race on Saturday was well attended with 6 boats making the race with an A bouy start to avoid the light air and incoming tide. A start stop start affair with the breeze dropping out in the middle giving the smaller boats a chance to close up and put the pressure on the front runners. A good contrast to the first race of the series which was a big boat game. Gate Crasher taking the handicap win this time and Avion taking line honours. https://yacht.org.nz/keeler-results

Friday Fun races have started again with a number of boats heading out last Friday.  These are casual sail with a 1800hrs start time.  A great opportunity to get friends, family and new sailors on the water. Next one is 20th November

RaceQs is a great way to follow races for those who aren't in them and to review them later.  If you want to try it download the app, it's pretty easy to setup and then you've got a tracker onboard via your phone and you can see where you went well and not so well.  https://raceqs.com/

MySail as we've talked about before is a great way to manage your crew, see who is available/turning up, keep details of your crew for emergencies as well as way of finding spare crew.  Quick hint, when you sign up, do it by computer rather than the app. It's a bit easier https://mysail.team/
