Sailability travel to Lake Ngatoro For Hansa 303 North Islands

21 Oct

This last weekend (17/18 October), a team of 4 sailors and 7 volunteers/family members loaded up our boat trailers and travelled over to Lake Ngaroto (just out of Te Awamutu) to compete in the Hansa 303 North Island Championships. There were 9 boats in the regatta, all singles and represented Auckland, Taranaki, Waikato and Tauranga.

There were 7 races over the two days and all in very light and fickle “winds”. It was very close but random racing, with wind dropping out for some, all the while a nemesis only metres away was chugging along. However, thanks to our coaching sessions over the last couple of months, our younger sailors have greatly improved their starting skills. The regatta was undoubtedly an incredible experience for learning, fun times and character building.

Our team results :

Paulien Chamberlain - 1st

Caleb Evans - 4th

Devlin Proctor - 7th

Tom Scott - 9th

Thank you to our volunteers for your time and energy and a big thank you to the Ngaroto Sailing Club for hosting the event. Kia Ora!
