Sir Peter Blake Regatta
The Blake Regatta 2020 was as per previous years a fantastic success.
This regatta is all about fun on the water for junior sailors, with the exception of a few seniors.
Sailors are all smiles at this huge event, it does not have the same pressure as a National Class Championships making it a really great first big fleet event.
TYPBC had nine sailors competing;
Simon Wagstaff and Robbie Shirley in the 420
William Pool in the P class
Miya Prescott in the Starling
Thomas Linklater in Opti Open
Finn Van Der Beek in the Laser 4.7
Tegan Denney in the Laser Radial
Anton Faire in Opti Green
Harry Lorentsson in Opti Green
Saturday saw 10 to 15 knots of west wind and 4 races.
Some good results where managed by the team with everyone shattered on the beach at the end of the day.
Sunday’s forecast was for light winds, early morning produced about 25 knots at Bean Rock, this slowly settled into a nice (shifty) south west wind of 10 to 12 knots.
Two races where completed to wrap up the regatta, again some good results from the team.
For more details of results please go to Torbay Sailing Club website.
A big “THANKS” to the parents of the Juniors sailing in the Blake Regatta, I know it’s a big ask from your sailors to participate, the experience of a big fleet and a great regatta makes it worthwhile.
Finally, thanks to Jeff & Steve on the Jimmy Gilpin who worked nonstop keeping C Course running and Loren, Ailie & myself on the Alan G who where finish pin on B Course, it gets quite interesting when 50 + boats are all finishing within 30 seconds of each other.
Next year is 20 years, be great to have a big Tauranga Team sailing this event ????
