TYPBC use the Optimist as their training boat for Learn to Sail Programmes and introduction into racing. The Optimist is a key boat in a new sailors sailing growth, with their early experience in a plastic Opti and then as they progress into the race fleets the first boat they will own will be a fibreglass Opti, usually one that is passed (sold) from new sailor to new sailor in the club.

Getting started in the Optimist Fleet is an exciting time as for many it is the starting point for a lifetime of enjoyment in the sport of sailing.

The Optimist is an incredibly stable and robust boat in a variety of conditions, so it is perfect for the gradual development of sailors’ confidence and skills.
