WINDSURFING AT TYPBC
Join the fast, fun and affordable sport of windsurf at the club on the beautiful Tauranga Harbour. We have a group of junior Techno sailors (10-16yrs), some RS:X sailors and of course windfoilers.
The Techno board is a very good board to learn the basics of windsurfing. Because it has a centreboard it allows you to get to sail a course in a variety of winds. It's currently the second largest youth class in the world attracting up to 400 kids at World Championships from 28 countries.
Windfoiling is the new exciting class for both men and women for the 2024 Olympic Games and will replace the RS:X. The 2020 Windfoil Nationals in Auckland last February showed it's the fastest growing sailing class in New Zealand as up to 55 windfoilers competed. TYPBC took 4 trophies home: 1st Youth Max van der Zalm, 1st Junior Olly Maidment, 1st Women Veerle ten Have and 1st Silver Fleet Tim Wood.
If a coach is available, TYPBC runs a Learn to Windsurf programme. The Techno gear can be chartered from BoPSAT to make it even more affordable. We also do lots of windsurfing for fun and can be seen blasting across the harbour on our shortboards when the wind is up, so why not come along and join us for some of the best fun you'll ever had on the water.
Techno windsurfers can join the Centreboard racing programme on Sundays (see Calendar for details).
